Working with PM, engineering and leadership
The audit, and the argument
I audited every surface we had, to find the common failures and to ask what a more intentional system would look like: one that met the company’s goals, fit the traits, matched what customers actually experienced, and could be reproduced by people who aren’t designers. The argument I took to leadership was that the brand and the product were selling different things: the brand was bright and playful, the product was sold on expert-led science. They agreed to publish in April.
The responsive layout that didn't ship
- The constraint
- The Campaign Planner was an MVP the team wanted validated quickly, and I had designed a responsive layout for it.
- The options
- Ship desktop-only to validate the MVP first
- Hold for the responsive layout I had designed
- The call
The team stayed desktop-only to validate the MVP first. I made the case, they decided, I disagreed and stepped back. No sabotage, no relitigating.
- The cost
- The layout I designed is not in the product, and that was my last involvement in the project. I don't claim responsiveness shipped.
